Papercraft gift handbags

A little different paper crafting today.  I made these cute little handbags, for table gifts.  They could include a tea light candle, chocolate or small gift.  Just a 6” square of paper for the bag section. 💕

Love the colours in this one, with a little pink ribbon necklace as a gift

First one I made, with a decorated tea light candle.

I have finished four of these handbags and need to make another 8 for our Pink Ribbon table gifts. Like everything, deciding what paper to use, takes the longest time....

Link to the tutorial I followed, can be found here

Hope you have had a great weekend

Small shoulder bag for Sue

My sister, Sue and I were having a coffee last week in a lovely coffee shop which also sells gifts.  We were both admiring a lovely vintage shoulder bag - it was made out of crushed velvet and was adorned with lace and buttons.  Sue commented that it would be the ideal bag to take, when you just wanted to pop your keys and money (and phone, of course)  when you were going for a walk, or an evening out when you didn't need to take your handbag.

Well I did not have any crushed velvet in my stash, but it did not stop me from trying to make a bag similar.  This woolen fabric was so soft, and the purple lace went with it so well.  The lace hides the top of a pocket on the outside, which is adorned with one of my vintage buttons.

The back view - with just a lace border across the top

The co-ordinating lining - maybe next time, I will put a small pocket on the inside.

Closeup of the bag

This was just your basic lined bag pattern, no boxing of corners, just two rectangles.  I cut the outer fabric and lining 11" x 8".  The pocket size was just "eye-balled".

I gave it to Sue this afternoon, and she loved it.  I think I would like to make a more "everyday" version, maybe replace the lace with ribbon?  It was fun (and easy)

Did you craft this weekend?

Newspaper Gift Bag

On the first day of 2012, I manage to get one craft item made - good start to the year!

I have been wanting to try the Newspaper Gifts Bags for a little while and while browsing Pinterest I found this tutorial...http://yourstrulyg.wordpress.com/2011/10/16/diy-newspaper-gift-bag/

So using the movie section from today's Sun-Herald - this is what was made.

This is showing both sides of the bag ... I did make some changes to the sizing, as the tutorial was for a small gift bag.  I wanted to use the full size of the newspaper to make a larger bag.

Sizes I used:
Top fold - 1.25"
Bottom fold: 3"

Folds across the width of the newspaper at 7", 4", 7",4" and 1/2"

I then had to change the sizing of the card stock to match.  All other instructions were followed.

I am really happy with the result, and it is one more craft item I can cross of my list of things to try.

PLUS - the Christmas tree has been dismantled, and all the Christmas decorations put away for another year.

Hope you had a great day

Craft Drought

It has been over two weeks since I have been in the craft studio.  My online business has been keeping me busy (no complaints) however it has been taking up too much of my "play" time.

Today I set a couple of hours aside to make two small gift bags - these bags are based on one fat quarter only - see original post here.  These will be filled with little gifts for children.  Cute little monkey print.

The next used a dog print, although a lot of the design was lost when completed.  Hope the little boy still likes it.

Girly goodies for display only

Inside pocket big enough for a DVD
I am going to make a stash of these in all designs, to have on hand for gifts. You can fit so many things inside all the pockets.

I still have to make a gift for the "Sew Many Ways" "Make a gift on the 25th" so fingers crossed I will be able to get started on that tomorrow.  I am planning to start on small gifts for my co-workers.

Well, I had better get back to updating the online store with new products, and then they can be put away and my office can get back to normal (ie being able to see some floor space)

Hope you are having a great weekend, it has been a beautiful winters day here, with the sun shining brightly and allowing all the washing to dry naturally (for a change).
