Orphan Block 1 - Completed

The first of the Orphan Blocks has been made into a Breast Cancer Drain Bag.

 

I love how the lemon check fabric freshens the block and also picks up the other yellow shades in the block.

 

A very pale green and white floral print was used for the inside of the bag.

I am now ready to start on another block

Orphan Blocks

I was sorting through my fabrics today, and came across these 8 orphan blocks.  They are each 12" square, and I am not sure where they came from, or what they were for.  Each block has a name embroidered on them, so no doubt it was for a signature quilt.

I have decided to use these blocks in my Breast Cancer Drain bags.  Each side of the bag needs to be 17" x 12", so I will just be able to add a border, top and bottom, to these blocks.

 

The problem will be getting fabric to co-ordinate with the blocks.  I am going to endeavor to use fabric I already have and not purchase any new fabric.   You can see I was trying a few colour combinations in the bottom of each photo.

The first one I am going to work on is the needle-turn basket of flowers block in the second photo.

I will show you the results shortly.

A Few Photos

Here a few photos of my table at the recent Leeton Quilt Exhibition and a couple of my quilts.  The photos are only "average" quality and I really should look at purchasing another camera.  My little Canon is over 15 years old and technology has advanced a lot in that time ...

Here are some of the quilts I had on display

 

 

This one is called "It's Puzzling - A Sudoku Quilt" It has nine different prints and the idea is to ensure that each print is only used once in each vertical or horizontal row or within each block - like the game Sudoku but in colour.  The photo has been chopped off on the right hand side.

 

 

This quilt is called "State of Grace" it was purchased as a Moda Kit and used a Jelly Roll from the Shagri La Collection

 

 

Pity this is such a poor photo - this is a Wacky Wedge Quilt - I called it "Cat's Go Round"  It follows the lines of a "Stack and Whack" quilt, and the main fabric in this quilt which is in the outside border, formed the blocks in the centre.  Fun quilt to make

 

I did have more photos, but they turned out even worse than these ones.  A couple of friends took some photos, so I may see if I can get copies.

 

I even tried to take some of these photos on my iPad, and they were not any better.  Maybe it is not the camera that is the fault but the person holding the camera, moi!

 

I have three weeks to finish all the pink ribbon thank you gifts, and have an order for two dozen emery board covers, so that may be taking up some of my time in the coming weeks.

 

Although I have a couple of new fun projects in the pipeline for Christmas.

Adding a hanging sleeve to a quilt

Scary times ahead!  I have been asked to submit some of my quilts to the local quilt exhibition.  Now, I am a amateur quilter, not really the "put on show" type, so I am a little concerned on how they will measure up.

In saying that, I am quite proud to be asked, and I will be at the exhibition with a trade table for my online business, so will hear the feedback from the visitors.

However the reason for this post, is that it was requested that all the quilts submitted have a hanging sleeve attached?  Many things went through my head, what size, how wide etc.

The Internet once again came to my rescue, and I followed these really easy instructions from the AQS via a YouTube video.

 

 

This method was so quick and easy, I made up eight sleeves in less than an hour and four of the quilts are approx 86" wide.  I intend to use safety pins to attach them to the quilts as I do not want them to be a permanent fixture.  I hope this is allowed?

Fabric Envelope - Revisited

I was speaking to my elder sister this morning, and she asked me about the "new" fabric envelopes I have been making?  She reminded me of a Christmas gift she had given me quite a few years ago, packaged in a fabric envelope... as soon as she mentioned it I remembered it.  So into my Christmas box, I went to check it out ...

A lovely hand made quilt still in its fabric envelope with my name embroidered on the front.

Inside, the gorgeous quilt, how could I forget this?  So much detail, so much hand work.

She even co-ordinated the inside of the envelope to go with the quilt

What can I say, the memory is fading... but it will be left out now, so that I can get a early start on my Christmas decorating with this being the first one on display.

I suppose I could use the excuse, that I had not actually made one ??? Does that count ??

Quilt and Owls

My sister Ann has been busy again and has sent me photos of her latest quilt.  It was a "Natalie Ross in Stitches" pattern called "Lullaby in the night sky".  Pattern was bought in my store Cat 'n Cart Crafts .

The colours are bright and cheerful and would look lovely in any child's room.  She also made some of my little owls, and it looks like she could not stop at one ... they are so easy.

Amy Bradley Cot Quilt

My sister Ann purchased the Amy Bradley Funny Babies Cot quilt pattern at Easter time from my online store, and today has sent me photos of the finished results.  It is gorgeous.  What do you reckon?

I love seeing what creations my customers (and family) make with items purchased in store, it gives me a real buzz ..

Today is a cold and windy day in the Riverina, so I hope to get up to the craft studio this afternoon to make something/anything! It has been so long since I have been able to just sit and craft, I miss it!
