Mix up in Posts - New Years Eve

I thought I would be so clever and schedule my "Happy New Year" post early so that I would not forget.  I scheduled it early alright, a day early, he he. 

A quick and easy fun gift for your guests this evening are these Tic Tac labels.  A free printable from Infarrantly Creative - see link here.  Just cut out and glue to top of Tic Tac packet, easy.

DIY - Scratchie tickets

I was intrigued by a blog post by Oh The Lovely Things on how to make your own Scratch Off Lottery Tickets.  It sounded easy and Artmind had a tutorial on how she made some as a promotional tool for her business - so I was set.

As a test, I used the free printable that was supplied with the first blog post, and just typed in some sweet words for birthday tags, and one for my Mum (just because).

I then designed a ticket using Microsoft Word (nothing fancy) that I could use as a promotion when sending out my online orders.

I followed the instructions in the blog, to laminate the section that I wanted to hide.  I used Marbig Quick Laminate sheets - all I had to do was cut to size, peel off the backing and stick on, ensuring there were no bubbles.

It was recommended that you use silver metallic paint, however I did not have any, so I used a metallic copper paint, which worked just as well.  This was mixed with dishwashing detergent. 1 part detergent to 2 parts paint.  I just used a teaspoon as a measure.

My dishwashing detergent had a lovely apple smell, so I wonder if we could also offer a "scratch & smell" version, he he

Can you see the rosy colour of my detergent, this was before it was mixed together?  All that was needed to do now, was to paint over the laminated section.  It required 3 coats of paint, make sure you allow each coat to dry before reapplying.  I held each one up to the light to ensure that the printing behind the paint could not be seen.

Of course, then I had to test one, to see how easy it was to scratch the paint off ...

I have made 25 scratchie tickets, with one winning ticket, so I will include one with each of the next 25 online orders.

I will show how I used the birthday tickets in the next couple of days, the birthdays are Wednesday & Thursday and I have yet to finishing birthday shopping.  Yes I know I should be making something, do the tickets count?

Covered Notebooks

I finished covering two cheap spiral notebooks.   The Santa photos were printed onto calico, and then used as the focal point on the front.

The first one, as usual, needed a little "twigging" to get the measurements right.

The second one, came together very quickly, and fit the notebook much better.

These do not look too bad for $2.00 notebooks.  I am going to use one for my Christmas Gift ideas. 

I belong to a large family, and thankfully we still purchase for everyone (I love it).  There have been murmurs of starting the "Kris Kringle" theme, and just buying for one other, but luckily this has not yet eventuated.  I believe that it is not the money spent on presents, but about the thought behind the gift.

One thing I do know, is that I had better start to get organised, as the days/months are flying by.

Something Different

Just for something different, and something that could be completed in front of the TV, I put together these three sweet snowman boxes.  They were made from a printable purchased from Sunflower Friends and are designed to be cupcake boxes.  Not sure of the cupcake, but I will certainly be able to find lots of other uses for these boxes.  I think they would look nice filled with white Christmas or some other type of homemade chocolate treat, maybe layered on white marshmallows (to reflect snow) at Christmas time. 

I also received a parcel in the mail today from the USA, from a fellow blogger who read about my alternative to using freezer paper for printing on fabric.  I explained that it was not always easy to purchase freezer paper here, especially in a small country town, and she offered to send me some.  Some, it is a HUGE roll of 75 square feet, or for us Aussies 15.2 metres.  Gosh I will be able to go mad with my printing now, however I think I will share Selina's generosity with some of my fellow local crafters.  Thank you Selina.

Personalised Subway Art Printables

Before I start this post, I must say, how invaluable the Internet is for making it easy to be creative.
I have found two sites that allow you to type in any words and they create the most wonderful jumbled up "works of art".  The possibilities are endless.

First I tried Wordle - entered in words to assist my niece with a printable to help celebrate her Grandmothers birthday.  You can print from this site, however cannot save the results.

Then I discovered Tagedo - this one has a variety of shapes etc you can choose, you can also save the results as a jpg or png and then use these files in any of your crafts.

Just for fun, I entered in my online store address and was astounded with the results, of course I chose a CAT layout to reflect my store name

How fantastic does this look?  I have printed it out and will purchase/find a frame and hang it in my craft studio.  I have not done that yet, as I was so excited with this find, I wanted to share it with you.

I just played around with all the different settings. There are so many different options, shapes, colours, etc. Warning, it is very addicting, Save your artwork as a jpg and you are ready to start creating all kinds of things.
